After the Gulf War there were reports in the media that the use of depleted uranium by the coalition forces had led to health issues among veterans and Iraqi civilians. Since then depleted uranium (DU) has been a topic of much debate internationally. Recent research show that DU can have negative health effects on people and the environment. This is why it is very important that it becomes absolutely clear what the effects of DU are.
Based on recent research PAX is working towards a moratorium on weapons with depleted uranium as long as it remains unclear what the effect are for people and the environment. Also the support of long term laboratory and field research is essential to end the uncertainty about the effects of depleted uranium.
